Your citations from Hemenway are BS by themselves because it's a source that's biased towards a gun control viewpoint. The data can be skewed to reflect favor to it rather than tell the honest truth.
How about data from an independent source that's neither pro or anti?
The FBI Bureau of Justice Statistics shows data that guns have a positive benefit to society by deterring crime: criminals do not want to get shot at by their victims.
