Martha High and Shaolin Temple Defenders - Summertime

A deep soul legend back in action with a tremendous band to back her up! Martha High's probably best known for her classic recordings with James Brown, but this recent set proves that she's still very much at the top of her game -,especially when getting such great support from the Shaolin Temple Defenders! The group themselves are an all-funky powerhouse , a really tremendous little combo with razor sharp instrumentation, and just the right production sound to keep a classic groove in place , a group who fill us with the same sort of raw excitement we got when first catching Desco and Soul Fire sides years back. Add Martha High to the mix, and you've got a wonderful little set , a smoking concert performance that not only lets High sing some of the deepest notes she's hit in years , but also gives her a chance to work the crowd with a surprising amount of charm.
