A SHORT VIDEO OF OUR JULY/AUGUST ARTIST: NASSER LUBAY FROM THE PHILIPPINES.

NASSER LUBAY comes to us from Manila, or Quezon City to be exact in The Philippines. Nasser was officially the first artist at ONDARTE as he flew in one day before the work was done on the studios and common areas. I met Nasser for about 5 seconds, two years ago in Berlin where we were both finalists at the Celeste Prize. His work was not only intricate, deliciously graphic and profound, but it also had a wonderful degree of tongue-in-cheek to it. His colors, ever so vibrant, and his recent attempts to include salt water (direct from the Caribbean) into his creations, has his side of the main studio looking like a sweet shop in Easter... take a closer look and you realize his subject matter is far deeper than what the superficial colors wish to reveal. With titles which include 'Rebirth', 'Turritopsis Nutrciula' , 'Lost Soul' and ' Ambitious Greed', Nasser's discourse proves to be much deeper than the 15 years he appears to have and the 28 which genuinely flow through his veins. In a week at ONDARTE he has been called everything from Nassim to Nassar, to 'The Karaoke King', 'Mr. Chef', and 'Maestro'... 'Rock Star' seems to be the definite one though.

NASSER LUBAY

"My art is a puzzle made up of everything around me. I intend to paint an unlikely world and bring about poetry from the hearts of everybody. I like my children (the name I give to all of my creations) to convey not only colorful shapes & figures, but also a different dimension within ourselves. Our life is filled with so many fascinating things, neither good nor bad, and to be able to understand that knowledge is just one of the most beautiful things. I hope to share my magical vision to the rest of world."

With a young career that started only in 2009, the self-taught visual artist has already made quite a number of accomplishments. Nasser holds the lone distinction of being the only Filipino to have won at the Celeste Prize. Titled Rebirth, this watercolor masterpiece was awarded 2nd honors at this prestigious international art competition held in Berlin, Germany.

Recently he was chosen as one of the Nine Youth Ambassadors for the food brand Jollibee, representing the field of arts.

Nasser also made waves at the 2009 Kuala Lumpur Design Week for the World Eco bag Exhibition. He was also invited to participate in the first major cross strait international art show, the Animamix Biennial2009-2010 Taiwan and China.

His works are constantly inpired by the realities of the vast multi-cultural society. He infuses different visual language and movements taken from different parts of the world and creates contemporary forms and aesthetics. His works mostly take off from emotions captured at a exceptional moment. He then allows his strokes and colors to engage others into an imaginary adventure.
