Atamira Dance Company presents
'Te Houhi - the People and the Land are One'
Choreographed by Maaka Pepene
Atamira Dance Company's newest work TE HOUHI, is based on an incredible true story from Choreographer, Maaka Pepene's tribal history. Set in the late 1800's, Tuhoe provide refuge to Te Kooti, a Maori prophet and freedom fighter, and are consequently persecuted by government troops. Their land is destroyed and with it a home and a collective heart, but their spirit is strong, and they will survive. TE HOUHI is their story.
