  • A poor kid from the Depression-era South, coming up through the Negro Leagues and becoming a baseball hero, and a half-black kid from Hawaii as President meeting on Air Force One. An amazing American story.

  • Willie Mays was the greatest baseball player ever. Hit for average, for power (660 home runs), on base percentage, stole bases, ran bases w/acumen, great fielder, didn't wear batting gloves. Was he an all-star 24 times? I think so. AND NO STEROIDS. Ted Williams only cared about himself and his hits. He isn't even in the top ten because he couldn't field and he didn't care that he couldn't field. He never practiced fielding! Why couldn't Barry Bonds be more like his Godfather? A crying shame.

  • EWWW obama

  • @ecktoeman Wow, calling someone homo is pretty weak! What are you, like a third grader?

  • @wattaguy1947 Very true!

  • @JGATZ1 Willie Mays> Obama. You gets thumbs down from me as Obummer sucks(sell out) and Mays was great!

  • @MoreBarn71 Expect Obummer is a puppet President selling the country down the river. (Besides that, it's pretty cool.)

  • Happy Birthday Mr. Mays if you view this post I want you to know what you meant to me. You played the game in a way that no one else did. Turning singles into doubles . doubles into triples and cracked HR's that every time you came up it made me think you'd hit one. I remember seeing you on TV commercials to keep kids safe from touching blasting caps left behind at the abandoned Navy & Army bases in SF. Kids listened to you; you are an American Hero

  • The most amazingly gracious man, amazing will always be associated to him. I was 8 when i saw him play and I can't remember anything at 8 except my dad taking me to candlestick and Willie hitting 2 doubles, and the Giants beating the Dodgers. Of course I listened to games on the radio and it only added to my memories of Willie making play after play to win games. I do know that he did it in an era that was totally racist except for a few which makes it even more remarkable
