***TURN YOUR VOLUME DOWN!!*** Filmed at Irving Park and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, from 11:30pm to 1:30am on the fateful night of 02/01/11 with my iPhone 3Gs.
The Great Blizzard of 2011 was bearing down on the city. Frequent lightning, 2-3"/hr + snowfall rates, and wind gusts to hurricane force (enhanced by "tunneling" between the skyscrapers/tall buildings on Irving Park) were common for several hours across all of Chicagoland. Lake Shore Drive was closed to traffic at 8pm, and several hundred motorists were stranded in their cars overnight, just 3 exits south of Irving Park.
It was very difficult and sometimes almost impossible to stand or walk! These are the most intense moments I experienced during the Blizzard. It was what I imagine being in a tropical cyclone is like. (minus the tropical.)
