@WoodsmanSkills I run a similar system. It is not practical to attemp to run high power appliances that run for any great length of time. The battery bank would be enormous and you would require a big panel array to replenish the batteries during useable daylight hours. I use a 20kW Diesel generator for the heavy loads. The trick is to use them all at the same time; washer dryer, stove, water tank, incinerating toilet and keep daily generator run time to a minimum.

I looked at a lot of vids and this is the best vid for beginners. It all make sense now I just have to get details on each component.

@jtgoodwrench most ripped off thing ive ever seen in my life

how long do solar pannels last

I checked those batteries out online.. I estimated the amount of batteries for that system to cost $60,000 . Am I way off with that calculation?? Thanks

You see in a video on my channel i do have a great time living off the grid.An making sales of a fuel saving additives love this video.
How much would this cost for all the materials needed just the system? Also would this system run your everyday house hold items like say could it pwer washer and dryer, basically would this work as if you were on the grid with say a 200amp service? I am looking for something that woud power my home the same as it were on the grid? Thank you for your time

@WoodsmanSkills This equipment would be in the neighborhood of $15,000 to purchase. It can produce 3,000 Watts of Power to run most standard household appliances but it can NOT "power my home the same as it were on the grid".. An off-grid system provides a small daily ration of energy (Watt-hours or kiloWatt hours) you need to maximize EFFICIENCY and CONSERVATION to work within the limits of the system. The grid is virtually unlimited, off-grid systems are not.

HELL OF A SYSTEM MY FRIEND. JUST HAVE A QUESTION IM SETTING UP MY OUTBACK SYSTEM THINKING OF GOING WITH THE GVFX3524 OR THE 3648 HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS ALSO GETTING A Outback Power FM60 MPPT 60 Amp Solar Charge Controller. MY QUESTION ON THIS IS. ?DO I HAVE TO RUN THE POSITIVE GOING TO THE BATT BANK FROM THE CHARGE CONTROLER ALL THE WAY TO THE BATT BANK OR CAN I TAP IN TO THE WIRE THATS GOING TO THE INV. THANKS. BY

@orlan7s1 no, you don't necessarily have to run the charge controller positive wire all the way to the battery, But you do have to use proper fuses or circuit breakers! I'd suggest building your system around an Epanel from Midnite Solar, same as seen on this video. That gives you a good way to connect the PV controller and the inverter to the battery, highly recommended!

Are these batteries your best choice for long term use?
And, who plays the music on the vidio - like it!!
almostwyoming 1 year ago
@almostwyoming Yes those industrial 2V cells are probably the longest lasting batteries around for solar PV systems, provided they are maintained correctly and recharged regularly!
The music is from my good friends the Foghorn Stringband from Portland, Oregon. Check them out here on YouTube or on their website
