this noise is most likely your camshaft adjuster. i'm a certified audi tech and i've seen it 100 times. proably only does it when it's cold huh? either way try unplugging your camshaft adjusted while it's making the noise. if it goes away then it's the adjuster.

remove fanbelt and check if noise goes away. Possible bad alternator bearing
