Quick technical stress test with capsule rigid body shape and to see if I could render (choose HD for detailed view). Stand alone capsules (~ 2000) spawned using game engine (Add Object). Total 4896 rigid body shapes (includes 16 compound capsules per chain link). No other Blender source modifications other than addition of Bullet Physics capsule primitive. Most of everything was done using Python scripts, all within Blender 2.5 (and rendered using built-in renderer). Blender is great for scripters (love the GUI Python tooltips)!

Testing: interactive scene; dynamic keyframing (first and last keyframes and target bowl for cup "scooping" were dynamic, based on source and target positions), as well as dynamic switch (was dropping cup here and there to test). Was also curious to see if I could render. Alpha 0 does not yet have built-in (bake) game engine recording, just used a Python controller to do so. Peculiar animation, it was getting late for a quick test, I just ran a sim, including trying to break it, then went to bed to let it render overnight. Had to switch renderer to "BLI BVH" acceleration structure as others were too slow with thousands of objects.

  • This is very nice!

How do you render like this, looks very realistic!

  • @DerangedGames: simple, just stuck Debevec's Uffizi probe (AngMap) in the World texture, a little Ambient Occlusion (World), some reflectivity (Mirror) for objects. (wood is Blender's built-in with color ramp)

  • This is awesome stuff Phymec... I think a lot of Blender users would appreciate a more in depth tutorial - perhaps for an upcoming BlenderArt Magazine issue?

  • I don't know why but that floating cup was creepy as hell!

  • can you put a download link for thus please

  • How did you record the animation to render? You can't record "add object", you can only record IPOs. I would love to know how you did this, and maybe you could publish the .blend file with scripts packed. It would be immensely useful.

  • i use blender too do you mind showing me how you made them chains to to act like that :)
