You don't need a book or a movie to start barefoot running. No one has to tell you how to do it. Your body already knows this. All you have to remember is to start slow, just like anything. Ditch the shoes and run around the block. Then two blocks, then three and so on. You're going to make mistakes but the great thing about being barefoot is that your body will correct them automatically. Don't buy a book. Don't buy fancy toe shoes. Just go and run around the block.

Re: warnings. If you've used shoes for decades, as most urbanites today, of course your feet are not adapted to barefoot running as nature intended. You've been fooling nature, so of course you can't expect to go natural instantly. But there's nothing intrinsically wrong with barefooting. That's like saying you shouldn't eat food with fiber because it could give you gas. Of course if you're used to refined food, going natural suddenly causes problems, but that doesn't mean natural is not better.

Depends on what you're worried about. If you don't want to step on something undesirable a sidewalk or the road is great because you can SEE everything. Not so when running through the grass. I'm always more nervous running through grass because I have no idea what I could step on (glass, thorn from any number of things that have thorns, needle, sharp rock, etc).
