How to keep Ghost Box 12-587 scanning

Just a short "How To" video I made after buying the Radio shack 12-587 radio and hacking it only to find it would stop scanning. I went back to Radio Shack and bought a micro switch and installed it. Now the ghost box is like an Energizer Bunny, it keeps running and running, LOL

Here's a quick question. If you install the switch, is it really necessary to clip the mute pin? And here's a tip so if you want to make it so you could chose what direction it scans in, install a SPDT on/off/on switch. I'll be posting a video on how I did this soon.

I modified my 12-587 unit after watching this video. Before, it would stop scanning every minute or two. Now it stopped once in a two hour test. Great video! Thanks for the help!

@13bobw1 Thanks glad it helped. I tested it to 45 minutes with out stopping. With that 2hour test you should be good to go for a quick session on location with out it having the annoying stops. I used to hate that!

hi there i just got my radioshack 12-587 opened ready to hack and there is a grey ribbon type cable now where the pins should be do you know how to hack this.

I have NEVER had mine to stop scanning because I use that magic button called LOCKED on the side.

@EVPChanneler You can find them at Radio Shack, just look for a Single Post/Double Throw Mini Switch. I have found out that the switch is a lil larger than the one used in this vid so I have come across some difficulties fitting it in the radio's case.

This is the Hack I use and it is a fantastic device!
