I always tuned in to watch this intro and then we'd turn off the tv and go out and play.

I miss Wide World of Sports. ABC should bring it back as a magazine show to highlight lesser-known sports shown on ESPN's networks, with them making sure to advertise that if you enjoy it, they would have more coverage on ESPN13 at 2AM, so set your DVR...

Of course, it wouldn't really be the same without Jim McKay hosting, but still.

Vinko Bogataj is the one everyone remembers because he was the one who was ALWAYS there for that segment. The other "agony of defeat" clip--indeed, ALL the other clips--would change from time to time with new highlights, but Bogataj racking himself on the ski jump remained right up until the very end, even when WWoS was just ABC Sports branding (they had him, followed by someone backflipping an Indy car while Bob Jenkins shouted, "Oh, no!" in the final days in the late 90s).

To me a variety of sports participated in is : athletics(track and field),aquatics, archery,badminton,bowling,boxi­ng, board games,billiards/pool, catch,checkers,chess,cricket,d­arts,fencing,golf,gillidanda,h­oolahoops,kalari,rugby,rounder­s,tennis,table tennis etc.

They're all fun and good for you. Some injuries along the way,but none lingering that much.

I loved Wide World of Sports - always hoping they would show gymnastics and figure skating. That crash on the ski jump still shocking as ever.

I'm not saying you're lying but perhaps you'd like to explain. Vinko Bogataj was/is from Lesce, Slovenia (formerly Yugoslavia). He does have a daughter (2 in fact). But according to your profile your from the U.S. and Luanne Parker (if that's your name) is not remotely slavic and i don't think Vinko is very "Western". And what's this about water ski tournaments? He was an alpine ski jumper....sounds kinda fishy. Care to comment?
