What happens when the Church gets serious about prayer?

As we pray what is hidden to the natural eye is momentarily revealed to us and the supernatural world is made manifest in the natural. Join Faith Dimensions Ministries, as Pastor Glen Ferguson, opens the Word with power and authority on the subject of "Prayer".

Acts 16 v16-18

Luke relays the plight of this unfortunate damsel girl, he tells us that she was possessed (influenced by a powerful force) by an evil spirit of divination. She was thought of as being special and gifted and many were happy to pay her for her service of fortunetelling; she also made her masters a lot of money from her trade and art of foretelling events and making predictions.

Verse 16 "As we went to prayer..." Isn't it amazing what happens when the Church gets serious about prayer? As we pray what is going on and hidden will be revealed, the supernatural world is made manifest in the natural.

Some revealing definitions of the words:
• Damsel (paid-sken) means slave girl
• Divination (put-hona) means fortunetelling, it is from this word that we get the English word "Python", which is a large snake which kills by wrapping itself around its victim and death is thus achieved by suffocation. The Greek god Apollo was said to have slain the great serpent python and as a result took its gift of prediction, Apollo's name became Puthios Apollo, "Python Apollo".

This slave girl was thought to have had the spirit of Putona and was regarded as having the voice of the Greek god Apollo.
Verse 17 "These men are servants of the most high God..." This was in actual a fact true, but the revelation came from an evil and corrupt source.

Verse 18 The Holy Spirit revealed to Paul the source of this girls dwords. He saw the planned actions of Satan and addressed the demon; commanding it to leave the girl and it did so immediately.

He used the name of Jesus, that name which is not only greater than Apollo, but all other names or god's and at His name this demonic spirit and every other spirit has to leave.

  • "You fully believe but there's a power controlling you"

Question... At this point has the person who believes received the gift of salvation and is now saved as if so how can they have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of them and be controlled by another power?

"the python is like a parrot the python its learns human behaviour and speech, the python watches you from the time that you were born" Question.. Where was this info obtained from as I haven't come across it in the bible?

  • @Sackbwoy The answer to the two questions are:

    1. A person can be save and filled with the Holy Spirit and still have problems with the Python, obviously the persons spirit is sealed once they have the Holy Spirit abiding within them, but man is a triune being and if one does not protect the mind and body they can be victimised by demonic spirits, the battle is to gain control of the mind. (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 ) Jesus also gave us further revelation on this in Luke 13:10 (to be continued)

  • @Sackbwoy when He was confronted with a woman who had a physical problem, probably curvature of the spine, but he said the source of her problem was “A spirit of infirmity”.

  • @Sackbwoy 2. The python watches us from our youth and mimic our behaviour, this is called generational curses for example Jacob learnt his knifing ways from his mother Rebekah (Genesis 27) but his destiny of being a trickster started way before then, it started in the womb of his mother (Genesis 25:21-26).

  • 5We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God..

the words "arguments and opinions" clearly denoting that this battle is the battle for the intellectual mind and arguments that oppose God.. In turn this will then penetrate the conscience and the heart, the weapons of our warfare is the evidence of truth.. People tend to over "demonify" this text and use it for so called "spiritual warfare" instead of learning how to present their faith to those who oppose it.

  • 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 has absolutely nothing with demons trying to gain control of your mind.. If you read the full text there you that Paul was defending his ministry against the arguments that many of the time held up against not accepting the gospel....The strongholds were the embodiment of pagan beliefs, sin and man's carnal nature..

The only thing that can break those strongholds is the preaching of the gospel that is spiritual and of divine power..

Notice Paul's word from verse 5...

  • As for the whole generational curse doctrine for a Christian.. 1 Peter 1:18 18knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19but with the precious blood of Christ.. Clearly clarifies that we are ransomed by Jesus' sacrifice from all the sins and curses of our forefathers... Sorry but this sermon and what it implies falls very short or true biblical doctrine...

  • @FaithDimensionsMin While I agree a Christian can be attacked or oppressed by demonic forces, this whole play on the "spirit of the python" is a bit of a nonsense and can't really be validated contextually using the scriptures.. Even your use of the text in Genesis 25 really is grasping at the whole python thing as no where in the text is a spirit even mentioned let alone a python one.

  • So the spirit of the python could be around me even though 2 Corinthians 5:17 states that all the old has passed away and that I have been reconciled to God.. Also Colossians 2:15"He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him." Romans 8:1.. Does God truly allow for any "believer" to be attacked by the "spirit of the python" because of the sins of elder members of their family? Deut 24:16 Biblical examples please.....

  • Awesome message. Pastor Glen always preaches truth, it may not be nice to hear but this is what Christians need, we need to hear truth, it is not all about bless me...bless me! Sometimes God will instruct us to be real Christians. LOVE IT....
