there is no defence against chavs... malaysian silat is a combat, fighting art. it can be brutally effective, and beautifully efficient. it works against average people, thugs etc. what any form of martial arts gives you is skills, fitness, reactions, and a few moe things.. these will help you in a fight. i do malysian silat because i prefer it. if you find it is not to your taste, thats good. you need to look around to find the art that best suits you your temperament and your body type.

I have a question regarding silat (or malaysian silat); how effective is defending against attacks from average people on the street (thugs, chavs, holligans) who have no particar style they just lash out wildly and without pattern -- can malaysian silat defend against these types of attacks?

lincah has seni- artistic movements, gerak, more akin to sparring and techniques which finish the fight. this would constitute gerak
