@onofomi My Great Great Grandmother and Grandfather were born slaves and their parents were too. Nothing I said came from any history book, but from the current elders in my family today who received the stories passed down to them. I'm not saying that my people aren't proud and didn't fight to the death. What I'm saying is that to say that they weren't treated as property and cattle, to be promised a better life in a land we already knew about is ridiculous.

@onofomi They weren't promised a better life (where would you even get that idea)...We were ruling our own nations and tribes way before any Europeans/Dutch/Spanish/Arab came. We had natural resources that they put a value to. And yes slaves were chained, stacked in ships in rows, and tortured on the way to America. This was a part of the "seasoning" process...And this doesn't even cover the Africans who were already in America trading with the Natives who were made slaves.

@panama68a it's real disturbing when people think so linear. You can't attribute exceptions to an entire nations without looking at all the components that destroyed it in the first place. There are internal and external forces, but most importantly like he said without a knowledge of "SELF" you can only go so far and I am not trying to give excuse, yes, people still make bad choices, but that can't used to wash out the plight of an entire people.
