Scientists from CSIRO's Wealth from Oceans National Research Flagship recently discovered a treasure trove of marine biodiversity and habitats in the Huon Commonwealth Marine Reserve off south-eastern Australia.

This video was taken on Patience seamount from the Marine National Facility Research Vessel Southern Surveyor using underwater video transects.

Patience is one of only two seamounts (undersea mountains) off temperate Australia where the abundant basketwork eel spawns. The eels co-exist there with schools of orange roughy.

This footage was captured at 1,036 metres depth.

CSIRO is working with the Australian Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts to monitor and assess the effectiveness of the Government's Marine Reserve Network off south-eastern Australia.
