My cats all did the same thing with my baby sister. They play "catch the hand." Especially when the hand is moving along an edge somewhere, like the edge of a bed or a table. I'm SURE that cat would have moved farther "inland" on the table if she was really irritated by the kid or have just run somewhere else.
