  • Lmfao what a fail this is why hockey is Canadas game! They don't even know what the skating techniques are. Its a backwards crossover. C-cuts or just skating backwards and a pivot. Good try USA.

  • @blu3sman8 Thats all you can hang your hat on? What they call the skating. Actually it is called a back cross under because you cross your foot under backskating. No C-cuts were even demonstrated. If you think those are C-cuts, then you have never seen an actual C-cut. Go be a Laura Stamm instructor then get back to me. And troll somewhere else.

  • I don't buy the step out unless it's a last resort. It was too automatic in the first part of this video. Keeping yourself square up the ice and staying underneath the player all the way down is a mental commitment.

  • @yachtzzuuup I dont disagree with you necessarily on the step out. You are fully commited once you do that. All posters need to remember this is an educational video right or wrong. There is no perfect way to do anything. I think they were simply demonstrating some techniques that can be applied both from a skating standpoint and a strategy standpoint, and let you decide which is best to employ in a game situation. Not attacking you Yachtzzupp,,,USA hockey made this vid... not me....

  • Although some of the terminology and technique is somewhat dated in this older USA Hockey video...many ideas comcepts are good and create some good discussions on 1vs1's.

  • Thanks Suds..... I have a stackful of old USA hockey videos,,,, besides this one,,, and the Skills for Defensemen is only clips of the 2 part series....I've already promised Divenstrike this complete video. Let me know... I also have "Passing and Receiving", "Shooting" Goaltending videos 1 and 2,,,, "Strength training for hockey" and a great one done with Roger Nielson with Borque, Denis Savard, Ron Francis, Greg Millen, Doug Wilson, and Mike Gartner. (one of my favorite skaters).

  • @blu3sman8 lol i know right

  • Great video, very educative and instructive for defence players, thanks!

  • how to play defence dont let the puck out of thier end if failed HIT THE GUY thats how you play defence

  • @blu3sman8 I agree with NHL2nite. Forwards = crossover. Backwards = crossunder. Either way, its just language. Call it something German, who cares. These guys demonstrate good techniques to add to the skating arsenal. Plus, this video is ancient. The names might change, but the skating techniques are still as important as they were 25 years ago.

  • holy shit what is this?

  • 4 BLUE. 2 MINUTE MINOR FOR HOOKING. thats what i would be calling...

  • Hooking?

  • @NHL2nite sure, i am with you on that. It is very good overall. I see so many kids who were taught at the mite and squirt level to turn and run like a rabbit to the near goal post mostly because it was easier at that level versus pushing them hard to develop speed and stability in backward skating. They come into JV and get burned on 1 on 1's .......I was not attacking either, just trying to point out something interesting. Thanks for contributing the video.
