I understand the rationale, but I still maintain that the new vehicles/environments look too "real world". However, they're also amazingly beautiful! I can't wait for the movie!

@Datan0de I have a feeling there are story reasons that the isolated digital world of Flynn's Server "evolved" to take on real-world characteristics. There are political/spiritual/philosophi­cal leanings to the story, and I think what the game grid "has become" in the film -- not only physically, but philosophically -- will have parallels to the real world.

@Proton1 LOL! It was 8-bit, but you're right. Having now seen the movie (twice), I'm less bothered by the "un-TRON-like" appearance than I was, though I still prefer the aesthetic of the TRON 2.0 video game to that of the movie.

It's no longer a four bit world, man. Even the grid must evolve. The newest video games are pretty "real world" to me, so why shouldn't the grid be?
