Sudden Cat Blindness: What to do if your Cat goes Blind.

Recently, my 15 year old cat Spanky went blind, and we've had to make some adjustments to make sure he's safe. We took him to the vet the day we discovered he was blind and he has no other health problems. If your cat goes blind you need to take it to the vet to make sure he or she does not have any kidney problems, which can often be a cause of cat blindness.
This video briefly goes over what to do to help your cat if he or she suddenly goes blind and has no other health problems.

When we first discovered Spanky was blind, he was very confused and meowing in the middle of rooms and at walls (like at the beginning of this video). Now, three weeks later, he has already quickly adjusted and only meows when he wants to be let outside. It's important when you have a blind cat for the first couple weeks to keep him inside and guide them to their food. They will quickly adjust using their other senses to navigate.

We had the option to put Spanky down because of his new disability, but he is a member of our family and we felt it wouldn't be right to not give him a second chance.

I am so sad your kitty went blind. If i had to guess, i would have said you wouldnt put him down. I know i couldnt. Poor kitty. You are such a kind hearted lady.

@katybrewer1966 Thanks Katy, it was really hard to lose him because he was the first pet I ever had as a child. He was such a good boy and used to meow at people that would come in the house. We used to joke that he was our "Gay cat" because he used to meow the most when we'd have guys over and wouldn't take notice if it was girls, lol. He lived a very happy, long life that he would of otherwise if we hadn't of taken him. My dad had found by a homemade creek by our barn.

My cat passed away a couple days ago. We found him peacefully laying in our shed. Please, if your cat goes blind keep a close eye on them to make sure they do not wander off and get hit by a car. We were very nervous that this might of happened.

its really hard to see an animal suffer,

pets are like family members they are like people too!

My 21 year old cat is blind AND mostly deaf... And she finds her way around and up & down onto a bed. She's tough and feisty, I guess that's what it takes. But she's always lived indoors, now is totally dialated.
