Believe it or not, I do have some familiarity with anarchism. Also, it's confederalsocialist, not ism.

  • ah! he's right on the verge of rejecting the state altogether. he needs a little nudge.

Well, stayed tuned. We'll see what happens. ;)

    Whoa, slow down there. ;)

  • Absolutely beautiful. It's only a shame that these ideas were put forth so eloquently over 40 years ago and continue to be blatantly ignored (to put it mildly) ever since.

  • Yes because only through a magic state can we have socialism or democracy.

  • Nothing beats Heinlein!

  • Therefore every assumption of State power, whether by gift or seizure, leaves society with so much less power; there is never, nor can there be, any strengthening of State power without a

corresponding and roughly equivalent depletion of social power.

It's more apt today, than when it was written in 1935.

  • You might enjoy "Our enemy the state". Albert Jay Nock

It is unfortunately none too well understood that, just as the State has no money of its own, so it has no power of its own. All the power it has is what society gives it, plus what it confiscates from time to time on one pretext or another; there is no other source from which State power can be drawn.

  • **"You say churches support themselves"**

No, Heinlein said that. I'm just reading.

**"many church programs are subsidized by governments."

If true, it's illegal, and it probably wasn't true in 1966. Even if it was, it wasn't the norm.

**"Once I have a camera I'll probably respond at greater length."**

    Respond to what?

  • Jury nullification is similar, though more ad hoc depending on the jury selected.

  • started off a little slow, then it really hit me what he was saying.

    absoutely fantastic.
