Purke's (6'3" 170 lbs. Klein High School, Spring, TX) first batter in the 2008 AFLAC All-American game at Dodger Stadium, August 9, 2008. Purke pitched for the West.
Purke would go on to be drafted in the first round (14th overall) of the 2009 MLB first year player draft by the Texas Rangers; however, he chose to play for Texas Christian. Purke is a 2011 draft eligible sophomore.

  • i hit two bombs off this guy my senior year

  • This guy's mechanics are a lot like Bumgarner's. Smooth, deceptively simple...Damn I wish I had an arm like that.

  • I faced him two summers ago..nasty nasty slider.

  • TCU's going to Omaha next year. Thanks Matt!!!!

  • great draft by the Rangers!

let's hope these two guys can make an impact on the team in the future.

  • Lol, I bet this ttwas guy is so pissed right now. Not only did the Rangers get Purke, but they got Scheppers too. Oh, and he's talked with Nolan Ryan multiple times and rumor has it, that the Rangers were the team he was hoping would draft him.

  • the Texas kid is staying in Texas,..the Rangers just got him

  • There is little chance that you are as stupid as you come off as being, so I'm just going to assume you're joking.

    I will respond, anyway.

NO TEAM drafts for need. None.

Strasburg will go #1 because he is the best player on the board.

Cole went to the Yankees because they viewed him as being the best player on the board.

    How old are you?

  • Your logic is completely incoherent.

Purke taking four years is not the point.

You're saying that we should get a catcher to replace Varitek (Varitek, not Veritek, you dumb fuck), when Stassi will take four years.

If you are drafting for a replacement, you have to expect him to be ready in no longer than two years.

BTW, no one drafts for need. NO ONE.

  • Who would you suggest us picking at 28, then?

    Stassi?

He won't be ready for four years. There are no immediate catching replacements available at #28.
