Ray Davies--See My Friends

The Kinks' ground-breaking single from July of 1965, and one of the key tracks from their US album, Kinkdom, performed here by Ray with backing band and chorus at the Warfield in San Francisco on Thursday, November 12, 2009; the fourth song of Ray's second set. The chorus is especially effective in this song, helping to highlight the Eastern influences which Ray mentions in his introduction to the song and serving as a worthy replacement for the sitar-like drone of brother Dave's 12-string guitar in the original recording (many thanks to Doug Hinman and his book, You Really Got Me, an invaluable resource for Kinks fans and the source of much of the information concerning the songs annotated here).
