Classic Egyptian: Taht il Shibbak

My all-time fave Egyptian love song, Taht il Shibbak (Under the Window) which is a third-person narrative about a sweet lady wearing a dress looking outside her window and falling in love with a handsome young man as he passes by on the street below; not knowing he's the object of her admiration.

In America any music surviving longer than 50 years is considered "classical", but yes, it's still beledi.

In the 1990's, we were lucky if anything survived longer than a week on the Top 20 Countdown and now it comes down to how many times a song gets downloaded on iTunes in one day.

In the end, a very small number of songs will be remembered as well as this one.
