in this video a new off road vehicle is tested in afghanistan by us army. this vehicle is called Srats Elsorv.
Following an evaluation of three prototypes - known as the Enhanced Logistic Off-Road Vehicle (ELSORV) - in Afghanistan, SRATS Inc has been awarded a $6 million contract for 18 production vehicles for Special Operations Command.
ELSORV is a hybrid of two extreme off-road vehicle tyypes - sand rails and rock crawlers. It can be armored to resist 7.62 mm fire and can carry a 2700 pound payload.
SRATS is for Specialized Reconnaissance, Assault, Transport System. The vehicle weighs 6800 pounds in basic trim and 8800 pounds with 7.62 mm armor applied. It's powered by either an AM General Humvee 6.5 liter engine or a Duramax diesel, either of which is upgunned by about 100 hp using SRATS technology.

  • 80 degrees ..... ye right

  • @tibchy144 6.5l v8 turbo diesel with added 100hp

I can see it adding up very quickly with those proHP60 axles running about $80,000, and 5,000 in the coilover shocks and air bumps, 3,000 in tires and beadlocks, 1,500 in hydro steering, not to mention the four 1/2" thick hardened steel and 5/8" thick titanium plated doors which could resist a .50 cal where it counts. It is still light enough to be helicopter lifted and actually cheap enough to leave behind.

  • Yall are missing the point. This is essentially the best of modern rockcrawling and baja racing technology put on an M151 Jeep. The humvee comes nowhere close to this thing in terms of offroad capability. Think about it, would enemys put mines on a 90 degree jagged cliff 200 feet in the air? No theyd put them on roads and places they can get to easily. Can they hit something racing across the desert at 90mph?

  • why are we pumping mony into things like this . theres beter trucks out there . the Dingo2 / the 30 year old south african buffel bases on a unimog and the casspir that can take mine and rpg7 hits .

  • hey idiots... its not a TANK.. its a lightweight vehicle, stop bitching about mines and RPGs .... lol you guys dont get the point of it

its like comparing a SLR McLaren with a Family Van

  • can stand against mines ?

  • my uncle fixes these trucks. mraps too

  • @tibchy144 Its a lightweight defense, off road vehicle. I dont think there are any out yet. A Humvee cant do what these can.

  • 333000$ for one vehicle which isn't even resistant against .50cal, not to mention RPG's.. somebody is going to earn a lot of taxpayer's money..

  • real nice shit.Anyone can stop it with a 50 cal. right in the front differential or the steering rod. It worth .10 cents. Ingeneering my ass.
