The captain was a jerk! First of all he was showboating, then he abandons the ship, then he constantly lies about what happened. Did he really think they'd believe he was catapulted out of the ship and just "happened" to land in a lifeboat??? Come on!

A lot of people give the captan a lot of crap for abandoning his ship but he was doing what any reasonable sane person would do
