This is just a short comparison of the differences and the history of MechWarrior 2 Titanium.
The comparison is done by using identical mechs on the mission Blade Splint for a speed run.

Titanium's final mission time is 1:38 vs DOS which gets 1:50. (1:48 is my best time in DOS, but I used a variant which Titanium cannot duplicate so I had to settle with 1:50.)

I hope this is found useful, but I do not expect it to lay the debate over which version is better to rest as I did not even cover half of the differences. In the future I might do a second video if it is called for.

  • @SirxMMPD Wow... MW2 Titanium looks like what happens when you take the Mechwarrior 2 CD and the Mercenaries CD and put them both in a blender.

Anyways, i was wondering if there is any way to run the "ATI 3D Rage Edition" or the "3DFX Edition" on XP. yeah i have the ati edition from an old IBM aptiva PC i bought back in the day... had a hell of a lot of fun with that.

  • @krabcheesewonton76 No, I'm afraid ATI versions are not runnable anymore at this point. You need the original card to get it to run because (as far as I know) there is not wrapper yet to emulate it. Now the 3dfx edition, yes this has been proved to run with wrappers even on Windows 7. Check the Mech2 org forums there is a thread or two about it.

  • cool video but i dont remember titanium having a super laser like that... then agian the last time i played this was like 3rd grade

  • @popadopalas Thanks for watching! :)

  • I got the Mech 2 DOS version and a joystick coming today in the mail and I cant wait to play!

  • @SirxMMPD sure :) i gotta get this game running somehow...

  • @JoshuatheKodiak Correction to my comments. The comment view didn't show me what you were commenting about. Assumed it was about the review. Apologies. Yes, I agree there is a mercs dos, but by and large they run completely differently. That is why I said there was no game based solely on mech2 DOS as they made significant changes to the weapons balance, graphics etc. Really the arguments for Mech2 DOS vs Mercs DOS are similar to that in the video. But for mercs they are non issues.

  • @SirxMMPD

I am quite sure that there was a Merc 2 dos version. With the 'Normal' software rendered graphics. I even played it.

  • @QuakinginFEAR Nope, there wasn't.

  • I can tell that the Titanium version is based off of the updated Mercs Graphics and Physics engine, but I never remember Mercs having lacking so much. Was there a Mercs version that was based off of the older Mech 2 engine?
