{PLEASE SEE VIDEO RESPONSES} ... A - HARMONIC MINOR AN IN DEPTH LOOK - (Lesson For The Rock Guitarist) In this lesson we are going to go inside the harmonic minor scale and start to dissect it diatonically. I know that there is a lot of information in this video so take it in small increments. you can also always rewind and watch it over. There are a few things that I didn't cover quite the way that I intended to ... but I will be posting a second part to this because it will take more time to get the information out that I want you to have. If you cannot walk its impossible to run.

THE HARMONIC MINOR SCALE:
This scale is a form of Minor which contains a raised seventh degree. The raised seventh offers a leading tone for strong resolution toward the scales tonic. This makes resolutions occur with far greater pull than is possible with the Natural Minor scale.
Sometimes called the heavy metal scales, and made popular in rock by guitarists lick Richie Blackmore, Yngwie Malmsteen and other greats players A great way to spice up your solos if your getting bored of the sound of blues scales and pentatonics. Also very useful in Jazz especially playing ober 251 progressions.

The video explains the scales' basic structure and design. Viewers are shown 7 fingerboard patterns off of sixth and seventh strings. Then, there is a thorough explanation of the harmony and how chords can be used in progressions to utilize the sound of Harmonic Minor.

I have formatted all of the harmonic minor scales as 3-notes per string scale forms so you can more thoroughly learn learn the harmonic minor scale all over the neck. This particular lesson concentrates on the all 7 of it's scale forms.

In heavy metal guitar playing, the harmonic minor scale is commonly used because it is one of the darker-sounding scales. Learn about the fifth mode of the harmonic minor scale with help from a guitarist and studio musician in this free video on metal electric guitar lessons.
Continue to follow these lessons and we will go over all of the diatonic chords and arpeggios that belong to this scale and the use of diminished Arpeggios

  • @TheShredfester I don't plan at this moment to write tabs for that lesson. but please look at the lessons that I attached in the video response area … there are some that haves tabs. I did at the end of the video include a diagram of the scale. what I would suggest is, get some diagram paper and copy this. the more that you write stuff out yourself the better that you will learn. you are welcome to review this video as much as you want. it will help things to sink in better too. thanks
