Edison Blue Amberol 3876 [Take 2, Mould 11]. "That Tumble-Down Shack in Athlone" (Monte Carlo, Richard W. Pascoe, Alma M. Sanders), Will Oakland and Chorus. First issue: Dec., 1919. Played on my Amberola 50.

"'That Tumble-Down Shack in Athlone' is a wonderful memory song that must appeal to everyone. The lyric and the melody are equally beautiful and the arrangement is unsurpassable. This ballad hit is just the right kind of song for the appealing counter-tenor voice of Will Oakland. he is ably assisted by an excellent chorus."
From the Edison Amberol records Christmas 1919 supplement.

  • Awesome! You rock, J! Nancy

  • Nmbenjam, Yes he did, I have it someplace. I'll find it and post it for you. I don't know if I have a recording of 'Little Town...' I may have a more modern local recording of it. Stay tuned! Regards, J.

  • You are right...I am very proud! I have a 33-1/2 RPM album by RCA Camden of John McCormack singing Irish songs; one of them is my grandparents - "Little Town in the Auld County Down." It is the first selection on side one, but unfortunately there is a bad scratch. I am looking for a good copy. I know McCormack also recorded "Tumbledown Shack.." but I do not have a recording. Any information you may have would be appreciated. Thanks a million!

  • Nmbenjam, You must be very proud of them. It's such a wonderful song. At some point I'll be posting one or two other versions of it so stayed tuned... Thank you for the kind words. Regards, J.
