is there any way to share screen *without* the other person controlling it? I use Skype for that, usually, but the video quality on iChat is a lot better.

You actually don’t have to turn on Screen Sharing in system preferences. That’s totally, totally different.

Ok, so i went to the apple store the other day. And i was on a Mac. Checking my facebook,youtube, etc... And while i was moving my mouse, it was moving on its own. Then "this person who was controlling the mac" they opened up Notepad, And said " I see you, yes you with the gray shirt." How are they controlling it?

I was supposed to be working at school, and then my friend and I were talking in iChat and I got screen shared... and it was funny.

I know i'm 5 months late, but it actually works. followed the instructions and was able to view and control a friends computer. even used the webcam setting to view his cam.

Listen People!!!!! It only works with people ON your network!!!!! I tried it with a friend that lives 15 miles away but it says "Screen Sharing could not be established" it pisses me off!!

Not true. Either your router or the person with whom you were trying to screen share with is the issue.
I have done it from Australia to California. It works well cause i know how to set up my router and open the need ports.
