My understanding is that she hated her voice, especially because nervousness made it even higher than usual.

Poor Eleanor, with that voice! Now I understand what the biographers meant when they wrote about it. I think she learned to tame it though, over time.

I agree that her voice is rather screechy, but it was cool to hear an actual recordng. She was an influential person and I am interested in hearing more of her speeches. Thanks for posting this :D
