Maria Barientos has been one of the best Spanish sopranos and has nothing to envy to the great universal sopranos of any time. Spain and Barcelona are proud of her.

I prefer Barrientos' singing of the cavatina to that of the cabaletta. Her beautiful light and dark tone, pure legato, and gentle pathos in "Qui la voce" are a joy. The "Vien diletto" is also well sung, marred only by those scales with the customary vowel shift (not aspirates), yet fluent and expressive nonetheless. A great artist! I take it this recording is one of the later ones when she was in her thirties.
