The term "Dinosauria" was first used in 1841 by Sir Richard Owen in an address to the British Association for the Advancement of Science, subsequently publishing the term in 1842. He was the first to recognize that dinosaurs ("fearfully great reptiles") were a distinct group of reptiles, much different from today's lizards. Owen defined dinosaurs as reptiles that walked erect, having a posture similar to elephants and rhinos. Dinosaurs did not have wings, flippers, or fins. Owen was the best known and most authoritative comparative anatomist in the nineteenth century. He argued extensively against Darwin's theory of evolution later in his life.

Thomas Huxley, the famous supporter of Darwin's theory, was the first person to suggest the dinosaurian origin for birds in publications between 1868 and 1870. Huxley found that some dinosaurs had a bird-like ankle joint, a short torso, massively braced hips, a long and mobile neck, and long hind limbs so typical of bird anatomy. He also found that some dinosaurs had holes in the bones for air sacs as in modern birds, and that some dinosaurs possessed the backward pubic bone typical of birds.1 Later, the presence of what is interpreted as a "wishbone" in some dinosaurs was added to this list.2

Archaeopteryx to Archaeoraptor: Bird to Hoax

In the middle of the controversy is the so-called transitional fossil often cited as the link between birds and dinosaurs entitled Archaeopteryx. All ten specimens have been found in Germany in the Solnhofen Limestone of Late Jurassic age (150 million years old by evolutionary standards). Pat Shipman stated that, "These few, special fossils have served as the basis for brilliant deductions, wild speculations, penetrating analyses, and amazing insights."3 It is the well-preserved impressions of feathers on several of the specimens that have elevated Archaeopteryx to icon status as the first bird.

Among the first critics of Archaeopteryx as the first bird was Sankar Chatterjee when he announced the discovery of a Triassic ...

you want me to read books that were made by ppl who took lestions from the same man who said that humens evolved from apes ? also how did they know that dinosaurs were worm blooded? they somehow found some outdated blood or something? also just like there are some bird like things in dinosaurs doesn't mean their related since so many animals living today share similer treats , that doesn't make them related

  • @DevilRaptorB Everything you think of as bird like dinosaurs had first: Feathers, hollow bones, warm blood, 3 forward toes, oval eggs in nests, etc. etc. etc.

    Not related?!?

    Read a science book.

  • The bible says.....

the earth is a flat circle.

    there was a global flood.

    snake can talk.

birds came before dinosaurs who ruled the earth for 160 million years.

  • @silandthemagpie

saddly your 100% wrong, birds and dinosaurs are not releted , its clear that you just want to believe that birds evolve from dinosaur when in reiality birds came before the first dinosaur ever started walking on earth, I say do your homework

  • I am a christian, but what kind of speculation is this? One thing is being a christian scientist, and a whole different thing is being a close-minded christian that cannot accept facts. Birds ARE dinosaurs (Theropod ones), just look at the evidence, it's a no-brainer. You need to have an idea of what happened in the Mesozoic era (that lasted about 190 million years) to understand how birds and dinosaurs came into being.

  • If evolution is true then how is it that in the massive amount of time we have been on this earth we haven't grown wings? It's a bit of a step down in evolution to become reliant on machines, But yet birds have been around longer than humans (supposedly) but yet we rule over the birds and have evolved much farther than birds from a mental perspective! Did the birds just stop evolving after wings and then forgot about the brain for a few million years, and why are there no other intelligent spec

  • He uses a 70 million year old 'duck' fossil to prove genesis is correct, LOL.

  • @spooderdoggy The bible has been disintegrating since Darwin published his findings. The only thing growing is the ignorance of those who think otherwise. Intelligent design was thrown out of court when creationists tried to convince the world it was science. It's fiction. 200 years ago every scientist was a creationist. Today the reverse is true. Creationists claimed a number of scientists stated evolution wasn't true. The NCSE proved that 200 times that number said evolution is fact.

  • Creationists may say that evolution is just a theory. But to us evolutionists, the existence of God is a theory as well. How can you prove that God actually exists? How can creationists prove that dinosaurs and humans lived together, and that birds aren't really related to dinosaurs? Because the Bible said so? The Bible is a BOOK, ladies and gentlemen; it's just a story. It's a good story, but a story nonetheless.

  • This is fiction
