I honestly have to say that in my opinion, Traubel probably had the most gorgeous voice of any Soprano of the operatic world. For sheer beauty of tone, particularly through the middle of the voice, it is astoundingly regal and rich. Astrid Varnay described her voice as having the color of brandy. I couldn't agree more.

Helen Traubel is my favorite Wagnerian soprano. The power and purity of her voice is fantastic. She was a magnificent artist.

Helen Traubel is very fine indeed- a great wagnerian soprano. I too appreciate her secure pitch in this most taxing aria. Wonderful! I would love to hear Marjorie Lawrence in this too--- in the movie 'Interupted Melody' the voice is dubbed and i don't know if she ever recorded this piece prior to her illness?

She is one of the top 5

Traubel comes closer to Flagstad than any other soprano. What a voice! Like Flagstad, there is very little vibrato, no wobble, and she is right on pitch. Bravo!

OUTSTANDING performance!!!!! Thank you VERY much for sharing this magical excerpt with us!!!!!!

...she had quite a sense of humor, too....I still have the 1966 Odyssey tan label cover of her and Melchior singing Wagner...

Is this Rodzinski conducting? Thanks.
No, Leinsdorf is conducting. Kindest regards,
