Also called "Jogateera Aata", this is among the most popular folk form in North Karnataka. The devotees of Goddess Yellamma believe that she symbolises the universe and carry a vibrantly decorated bust of Yellamma while singing and dancing in her praise. Thus their name is a derivation from "jaga etthuvavaru" -- literally meaning "those who carry the world"-- Jogatheeyaru.
The singer/ dancers balance pots of water on their head as they sing and dance to the haunting sounds of Chowdike, a fascinating instrument.
