Happy Year of the Rabbit! Lunar New Year is undoubtedly the most significant holiday of the year in many cultures and parts of the world. As an Asian American household, we've tried to maintain some of the customs passed on for generations, but many things have been lost or changed over the years. Everything from rituals to recipes have been adapted to fit our environment, and I find it fascinating to observe the fusion of cultures that results from Western society celebrating Eastern traditions.

I've always enjoyed this one week in the year that I have the chance to take a deeper peek into my heritage and pester my family with questions about the holiday. This year, as a result of asking why chicken is an important food, I even learned my first ever phrase in Taishanese. Yea...that's right. :P
