"The outcomes from surgical treatment of prostate cancer are dependent on the patient's age, on the extent of the tumor, and to some degree the experience and results that an individual surgeon gets." Dr. Schlegel, of the Dept. of Urology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, explains common expectations for patients entering into prostate cancer surgery and what factors those expectations are founded upon.

  • Cool prostate cancer video! :)

  • I have video interviews with patients who are free of prostate cancer, have no sexual side effects, no diarrhea after the treatment, and did not have to go through a radical prostatectomy (prostate surgery)

  • I had a radical prostatectomy at NYP earlier this year. My recovery has been outstanding. I credit my surgeon and NYP for much of that. Also, they prescribed exercises and required my losing weight before the surgery (which I was entirely motivated to do given the stakes), something other doctors with whom I consulted never even mentioned. Today I am feeling better than I have ever felt. I cannot thank NYP and their staff enough...they are the best!!

  • @kenmunyard good to hear u got the all clear.

  • @kenmunyard It went really well and every thing is fine,,,it was really just a cyst.

  • @Clemburke1111 .how did u go with that bloody lump ?

I 've got one as well ?

  • Best wishes to you all. In most cases it is a very treatable cancer. Jim

  • Hi Jimblackwood, i have just returned from the hospital(in scotland) my father has just been diagnosed with prostrate cancer, my family are upset, your story gives us hope, many thanks.

  • jim, I just got back from my GP and he found a lump or cyst on my Prostate even though my PSA levels were good. I am going to see a specialist and I am NERVOUS!

  • At 48 yrs of age I was diagnosed with prostate cancer...by a fluke really. Suffering urinary troubles for years, my PSA was low. My urologist ordered a prostate ultrasound to see if I would benefit from a certain shrinking procedure, and the tech noticed somwething suspicious. A biopsy showed 2 out of 10 samples as cancerous. I had a wonderful surgeon who did a bilateral laproscopic nerve sparing prostatectomy. I am now 100% recovered. Don't be afraid just get checked!
