@FavreianVengeance Yes, I agree entirely. There isn't a single 'original sounding act' who hasn't imitated their own idols. It's what they do with the influence that counts. Madness are also open about the influence of Ian Dury upon their sound but they always had a distinctive sound.

@ImaniHekima Well I believe that ultimately all musicians steal their sound from someone. But they do improve upon the existing sound. The Beatles, Depeche Mode, Oingo Boingo are some examples of bands that took it to the next level but even they did not fully invent their sounds.
