So true, I get a strong sense of union busting going on in education.

@PHubb The majority of democrats voted for the wall street bailout, the majority of conservatives didn't. You have the democrats to whine and kick your feet at. Corporate taxes in the US are the 2nd highest in the industrial world, @ 35%. The bailout was 1 trillion, not 13 you stupid piece of shit. The 15 trillion dollar debt is the result of deficit spending. Your lord Obama is trying to increase the debt once again. Congrats.

@PHubb Hey dumbass they didn't want to close the school down. They wanted to extend the school day and give the students more education. The teachers would not do it without a hefty compensation. You bleeding heart poverty talking point is a joke. In a school district with poverty, why are these teachers with hearts of gold demanding even more money? By the way your wall street bailout figures are completely fucked up. Looks like your the product of the public education system.

A lesson on teachers salaries.
Property taxes pay the teachers.
Not corporations income taxes.
Not CEO's salaries.
Not rich people's salaries.
If your local Mayor and budget spend all your property taxes on pensions and benefits for city workers then you must go to them for your economic disasters. If there is not enough left over to pay teachers then they gave pensions and benefits that were unsustainable.
Your Mayor and the Mayors before him thought he or she was pretty slick.

Teachers are not over paid at 70k a year. Most teachers have masters or PhDs and are very dedicated to education. It's an extremely difficult job. You have to be part cop, part psychologist, part social service agent, part psychiatrist, part Mom and Dad, and then an educator as well. Do lawyers or doctors keep a used clothing closet for their clients who have been foreclosed on and are out in the street? I don't think so. Poverty is the big determining factor in student failure-not teachers.
@ terryharris - I'd like to see you do a video interview, off the cuff, no preparation.
You think that's so easy? Try it sometime - or better yet - watch some of our politicians make fools of themselves. How about taxing the Wall St bonuses and corporate welfare and giving that to each family to lower taxes? The Wall St bail outs ($13 trillion) could've given every American a check for over $100,000 each.
That would've bailed out the economy and everyone in the country.

I feel sorry for the teachers, but I feel MORE sorry for the students who are failing EVERY SUBJECT IN SCHOOL!

students at CF High are not failing EVERY subject - that's ridiculous. Most are just failing in math. POVERTY is the over riding factor in determining student success or failure. Blaming it on the teachers is simply scapegoating. What are they going to say after all this and 3-5 years from now CF students are still failing?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
All of you teachers should be ashamed of the job you did . I have never seen a school with such in ignorant student body.I am glad you are no longer hurting the kids and I can not wait to see the scores in a few years.

Poverty is the #1 determining factor in student success or failure. There are dozens of studies going back to the 60s that prove this - you are ignorant of the facts. Do just a little bit of research and get your facts straight. I recommend a new study and book by ex Bush education administrator Diane Ravitch.
