Sit by my side - come as close - as the air
Share in a memory - of gray
And wander in my words - dream about
The pictures that I play - of changes
Green leaves of summer - turn red in the fall
To brown and to yellow - they fade
And then they have to die - trapped within
The circle time parade - of changes
Scenes of my young years - are old in my mind
Visions of shadows - that shine
Til one day I returned - and found they were
The victims of the vines - of changes
The world's spinning madly - it drifts in the dark
Swinging through a hollow - of haze
A race around the stars - a journey through
The universe ablaze - with changes
Your tears will be trembling - now we're somewhere else
One last cup of wine - we will pour
And I'll kiss you one more time - and leave you on
The rolling river shore - of changes
I'll kiss you one more time - and leave you on
The rolling river shore - of changes

  • You were only six years old in 1966. What were your memories? I was 18 at the time and we played this song at each party. Koos

  • Love this song...nice to see the lyrics.

  • This was the first cover of this Phil Ochs classic. Despite my being a Gordon Lightfoot fanatic and liking his cover as well, this is still perhaps the best cover.

  • What sounds to me obvious (but maybe you'll disagree) is that Crispian St. Peters modelled his cover after Phil Ochs' friends' cover, on Jim & Jean's CHANGES album. Of course, with his range he can sing both Jean's & Jim's parts. But if you like this approach, and haven't listened to Jim & Jean's 3 records, you might want to try them.

  • What a VOICE!!!!

  • What an incredible song...sung by an incredible singer...

  • This is the superior version of this song.

  • Phil, I will bear the pain of your death every day of my life.

    Love you, mate.

  • Gordon Lightfoot recorded this song but did not write it. Phil Ochs wrote it.

    Rest in Peace dear friend.

  • gordon lightfoot was the writer............... great song
