So I figured out that fraps actually doesn't lag too badly if you play a 'slow' track, so that there won't be much going on on the screen. That way it can cope with it. it is just a piece of software after all, it has its limits. I'm thinking of getting a capture card, because while the good ones can be quite expensive, they give near perfect video and audio quality. And let's face it, if I'm going to be doing let's plays and other stuff like that, nobody wants to see some crappy 'UNREGISTURD HYPERSKREEN PRO REKORDER 3' and pixels up the ass. Ok, fraps isn't like that exactly, but it could be better. So yeah, I'll be looking at capture cards soon.
@Desu36 yeah it only tends to lag when fraps is running, any other time it's fine.

@helldrummer89 Fast songs usually "shouldn't" lag more than slow songs, but I'm not sure since I usually don't play slow songs. I get 55-60 fps while recording (frame limit caps at 60 fps) and 120+ fps when I'm not recording.

@Desu36 when I put Audiosurf I meant fraps :P but I guess the same probably still applies.

Audiosurf doesn't lag at all as long as your computer can handle it.
