Rhodes & Corfu 2009

The Greek island of Rhodes isin the southeastern Aegean Sea,
and the capital of the Dodecanese prefecture.
Rhodes has been famous since antiquity as the site of Colossus of Rhodes,
one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The citadel of Rhodes,
built by the Hospitalliers, is one of the best preserved medieval towns
in Europe which in 1988 was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Corfu

The island is steeped in history and perennially connected to the history
of Greece from the beginning of Greek mythology. Its Greek name, Kerkyra
or Korkyra, is connected to two powerful water symbols: Poseidon, god of the
sea and Asopos, an important Greek mainland river.

The island's history is laden with battles and conquests.
The legacy of these struggles is visible in the form of castles punctuating strategic locations across the island.
Two of these castles enclose its capital, which is the only city in Greece to be surrounded in such a way.
As a result, Corfu's capital has been officially declared a Kastropolis (Castle city).
The city's old town was named on the UNESCO World Heritage List,
