USE discretion when you can, when you record subway trains and the like at stations. Since 9/11 they got a bit more strict. I met no trouble when at street level photographing a train crossing a bridge, for example.
A motorman (black male) was a bit nasty to me after I boarded his train (after taking pictures). He let up just a bit when I told him 'I'm a trainbuff...I have a MySpace Page'.
From behind the window curtain, in his cabin he watched me to the last stop. I love the 1st car! ^_^

Understandablby the Engineers (as is usually the situation) HAVE to watch the tracks ahead. That's a BIG Machine they have to control. Espsecially when passing through a station. I know it would be nice to see more friendly wavers from the Trains here in the States, too. From MY personal observations: I see many MALE Train Crew Members (Especially those operating the Subway Trains & Streetcars - here in Boston) 'LOOK at Pretty Ladies on the Platform'. I'm NOT talking 'safety watch' here. ;-)

Anyway I have shot this train for 4 years already but I received not more than 10 waves .

Hong Kong train staffs are very very cool , and normally they even don't look at you ...
