Toward the mid 1990s, under the banner of Railfreight Distribution (RFD) I trained on the class 58 at Toton. Shortly after this I was involved in Load and Timing Trials with the class to evaluate its' capabilities on Freightliner trains, between the terminals of Felixstowe and Stourton (Leeds). The trials were successful and the project given the go-ahead.
A locomotive arrived at our depot in order for the rest of the depots' drivers to carry out a "conversion" to the class. However; the rug was pulled from under our feet - very suddenly and we were to see no more of them.....
I was never given the answer as to why this happened !
The second half of this batch of stills is dedicated to this project.
