Renata Tebaldi sings the finale from Puccini's Madama Butterfly. Recording only. I think her interpretation of Madama Butterfly is great because her voice is so well suited to the role.

Esito ineguagliabile.

  • why the cut?

  • I also would say, la Tebaldi sings it very nicely, but not hearted... just the crying passage, but too much strong and buttergly was a child at the time... just plain too old to be credible, admirable on her techique.

  • I would disagree with this idea that well-suited voice = good interpretation. They're two very different things. She does meet the vocal requirements of the role, although I have trouble believing her a fifteen-year-old, but for me the dramatic portrayal just isn't there.

  • yes this is. it is from a cd of the 1959 telecast recordings from the bell telephone hour telecasts. i have made it so it starts at the same location as the bell telephone telecast on youtube; however for some reason i cannot look at the staging without thinking it is funny (dont ask why) so i have put up just the recording.

  • You are wrong. This is from Bell telephon hour Telecast, january 1959.

  • Incredible power, so touching, the Great Tebaldi at her best. Magnifique.
