The soda sphere with mentos introduced later, was this experiment ever accomplished?

@CronicDemise Yes, I did another flight in 2011. You can see video from that flight in my Youtube channel.

What if you used a balloon filled with coke then when you enter zero-g you can burst the balloon and thrust the mento straw into it. Has anyone else tried this that you know of? I'd been dreaming of doing this and googling it for ages and finally found it! Cant wait to see what happens in the sphere!

The problem with this approach (as I recently documented on the blog) is that rubber balloons contain huge numbers of nucleation sites. All the C02 comes out of solution when you try and fill them. I'd have to fill them, then add C02 and repressurize them. Complicated...

Hmm. What if you'd created your sphere of coke before the mento was introduced? Instead of introducing the liquid onto the mento and starting an instant reaction, allow the sphere to form using another hydrophilic surface to control the spheres position and later introducing the candy. Just a thought. Great video, I'd love to be able to take a ride on the vomit comet someday!

This is the approach I am currently working on, but there are issues with both deployment and stabilization of the sphere of soda, not to mention we have to be careful not to mess up the nice, clean airplane.
