High Caucasus: paragliding in Svaneti

Flying above Mestia, close to the twin peaks of Ushba and with 5000m mountains in the distance. My first flight there.

Do you usually only land in designated zones? How tempting it must be to just glide towards Tbilisi and not care where you make landfall.

there is nothing designated here -- you can fly wherever you want. (But this is also far from Tbilisi. No one quite managed to land their paraglider next to the Tbilisi airport yet)

Yeah, Tbilisi is quite far. I meant figuratively speaking. But if you land on a road or in a field somewhere, do you have to wait with your gear until someone picks you up, or can you carry it a little ways?

depends. We typically have pickup arranged (radio, GPS, even flares), but we have also had some occasional hikes to get out of a valley.

I done this went to CP license and fuckin hated every step of it from CP that is. I hated the rocking in my harness it wasn't stable at all, the turbulence u can suffer at this alt is numbing. I ended up 2500ft and had no choice on the matter as i hit a thermal and was just learning Big ears, i never went back again. I simply was out of control of my height and did not like that

Giselle and I have watched this 9 times now in a row, she can't get enough of it. She truly believes you are a superhero Hans. And I'm impressed as well, its spectacular. How do you have your legs crossed in front of you, you're almost lying back, is it comfortable because of the air resistance?
