If you expect low quality and low performance, run down this guys track. If you want reliability long lasting gear, spend a few dollars and you will be set for many many years to come. I run with msr as they have been proven time and time again. Anyone can make a budget cook system but they are just not effective nor reliable.

Thanks for the excellent videos Jason. I'm thinking about procuring the
Vargo Outdoors Triad XE Titanium Alcohol/Fuel Tab Stove
If you're familiar with this kind of stove system, any thoughts or suggestions you might have would be very appreciated.

hey, we just got back from RMNP (4d/3n). our 24oz can got a hole in it and we had to duct tape the hole before each boil. the kevlar tape is a very good idea.
there was so much traffic at our last overnight, Lake Odessa, i was hard pressed to find a clean spot to use the stove. i ended up "flaming" the points of contact where the stove parts touched surfaces before returning it to storage.

Where's the V8 stove's plan? I'd like to see that one in action.
Jason - what is the time to boil ~16oz or one cup of water somewhere's around 5,000'?
i'll need to compare the boil times w/ the V8 burner i'm using. usually, when i decide to stop what i'm doing and eat, i'm in no mood to wait. i wanna eat and not wait.
i'll do this tonight and re-post with boil time results at 4,000'.
oh, the huge advantage to this would be the alcohol bottom could be punctured and we'd be on the trail. and yeah, trying to remember the edible plants in the area.

Go to my website "Homemade Backpacking Gear" and click on the link called "altitude vs. boil times". It give you a chart with the boiling point of water for a given elevation.

Jason, this is the vid that got me started on this stuff. It's shot outdoors, which is huge. Nearly every other stove video isn't. It's just a really good practical shot of a good classic system. Thanks!
