Billy's New Year's Eve special episode 09-12-31 US part 5

Outside of the bar,Bily tells John he's not dead,he confirms he is,he was partying.Billy sees himself slumped over the airbag of a crashed car and realizes he will die if he continues on his current course in life.John John warns that you have to earn your place in a family. John confronts him, saying he knows all this, but he's scared to admit he cares. Billy asks John how he can change, but John disappears.

In the present,Billy wakes up from his dream and and finds himself still on the curb, drunk.
At the Chancellor Estate, Chloe and Chance kiss again, and Jill, Katherine, Murphy, and Esther come into the room ringing bells to welcome the New Year!Jack is on the phone with Traci and the patrons in the bar inside along with Mac and Cane ring in the New Year. Outside,A car pulls up and it's Victoria and offers him her help that she'll take him home

They never should have written John's character out of the show, they should have let him go when he was ready to retire. John Abbott is the common sense of the show. He's the patriarch.
