This was originally a poem by Joseph Scriven written in 1855 and the tune written later by Charles Converse in 1868. As with a lot of Hymns, the tune has been used for other songs. The two I know of are "When This Bloody War Is Over" from the 1st world war period and more recently "Changes" written & performed by Alan Price. It was a favourite of my Grandmother and therefore of mine too.

  • Great version... I enjoyed listening very much.

And your cat is cool, too... :)

  • @LillyC68 Thanks Lilly. Bonzo the cat is not sitting there enjoying the performance. He wants me to stop and pay him attention as he's blind and nothing really satisfies him other than contact. Cheers, Simon.

  • Beautiful...Best Regards

  • @mewhite1528 Thank you Mike. Cheers, Simon.

  • Oh, I see.... but I'm sure he's enjoying the performance, too!

Take care, I'll be back to check out some more of your videos,

  • (Youtube was displaying my original comment twice, so I removed one, and then they both disappeared - so I'll repost...)

"My new favourite version - with added cat! Was this transposed to Eb?"

  • @yanman3 The outcome was, indeed, Eb but I was playing in F and using the key changer on the keyboard. Bonzo, the cat, is now very old and blind and objects to more than 5 minutes lacking attention being lavished on him. He is very unimpressed with any noise I make other than chatter regaling him.
